AVI Technology from ID Systems Ltd
What is AVI?
In the access control industry, automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) mean being able to automatically identify and permit entry and exit to vehicles such as buses into special bus lanes and service vehicles into normally pedestrian areas.
Using advanced Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems enables identification of approaching vehicles at the gate, barrier or bollards and authorisation of entry without causing the driver to stop or open the window. Traffic flow, safety and convenience are all improved.
Why use AVI?
For the parking operator the season ticket account often represents a significant percentage of total parking revenue. Providing these customers with a fast and convenient way to access the parking area helps to increase occupancy levels and ensure customer loyalty. The customer will not have to spend time buying tickets or stopping at the terminal. They simply drive in and out. AVI systems are significantly faster and more reliable than the earlier ticket/proximity tag systems and can therefore help to reduce congestion at peak morning and evening times.
Improved Facility Security
By using AVI vehicle access to buildings, ports, airports and gated communities become reliable and offer the highest level of security. The unique Tag ID, which cannot be copied or altered, can be verified against a database residing locally or on a central server. Overall security levels are improved by denying access to unauthorised vehicles and can provide a full record of all tagged vehicles.
The 2.45 advantage
The globally accepted frequency of 2.45GHz enables ID Systems Ltd to provide a long range reading distance of up to 10 metres with a well defined reading area. Readers contain a controller and antenna. They can be controlled by a host PC or operated in stand-alone mode with integrated database managing up to 15000 identities for quick validation.
How it Works
The system uses microwaves for the reader to establish the electronic identity of the tag. Information on each vehicle can be linked to each tag ID and stored in a database. The vehicles are identified at entry and exit points and the information made available to the parking management or access control system.
Minimal Maintenance and Operational Costs
Free from moving parts and swipe card operations, there is no need for preventative maintenance. The system can serve in unattended parking facilities with a very high level of reliability. Through the integration with an existing access control system or local PC operation, administration of the system is made easy.
